Dining in LondonDining in London, UK can be a unique international cuisine experience. Plus many of the restaurants are conveniently located close together like these near the Waterloo Station. ANCHOR AND HOPE sets the standard for BRITISH dishes on a menu that changes twice daily. There is lamb shoulder with potatoes, hake in crab broth, other soups, and much more to choose from. Cask ales, Old World wines, and Damson gin finish off the meal along with, perhaps, peaches in Beaujolais. AUBERGE for FRENCH-inspired food: Menus change with the seasons and include mussels and chicken fixed in a variety of ways, braised lamb shank, and seafood. Their rib-eye sandwich is excellent. Dessert might be a lemon tart. TAS for TURKISH dishes: They have a savory lamb casserole, deep-fried salmon skewers, mushrooms in a tomato sauce with cheese, a mixed grill, and a Turkish folded pizza which they cook in a wood-fired oven. There is a live guitarist in the evenings for entertainment. BANGALORE EXPRESS, opposite Waterloo Station, is a fun time with the feeling of being in a train carriage, especially if you sit in one of the double-decker booths. Prices are reasonable. There are INDIAN tapas, curry and rice with a selection of meat and sauces, Tandoori dishes, and other selections. PING PONG for traditional affordable CHINESE including baked or steamed dumplings with various fillings, spring rolls, duck wrap, and other favorites. Try plum wine or hot sake. MESON DON FELIPE has SPANISH tapas, paella, croquetas, and more to perhaps be washed down with wine from Don Felipe's own vineyard. There is live guitar music as well. OXO TOWER RESTAURANT is at the top of the tower, and an extra price will allow you to sit by the riverside windows or on the summer terrace if you get there before those spots are taken. You will find seasonal BRITISH main courses such as roast grouse served with haggis, venison with date and cumin puree, and a chocolate assiette for dessert. It has one of the best international wine lists. Also for luxury dining, consider the yacht SILVER STURGEON with a champagne bar followed by a three-course meal with wine and petits fours. |
